Welcome to Burj Khalifa - Dubai's Highest Attraction

The Burj Khalifa, with its enormous height of 828 m, is the highest building in the world. And this is not the only record the skyscraper holds. It has the highest usable floor, the most floors, and the fastest elevator in the world. The construction of the Burj Khalifa took about 7 years. On 4th January 2010, the time had come for the Burj Khalifa to be opened. The total cost of the project was around 1 billion euros. Before the opening of the building, the tower bore the name "Burj Dubai". It was later renamed "Burj Khalifa" after the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayid Al Nahyan. The reason for this was his assistance in the construction of the Burj Khalifa. He helped out Dubai's "debt tower" with several million.

The Burj Khalifa is located in the center of Dubai Downtown. The Downtown district was created especially for the gigantic tower. Architect Adrian Smith designed this gigantic skyscraper. The project company Emaar Properties took on this enormous construction project.

Among Giants

The Burj Khalifa still enjoys its status as the tallest building in the world and thus joins an illustrious circle. The highest buildings in the world are masterpieces of engineering and pioneers when it comes to design and architecture. Previous owners of the title were Taipei 101 in Taiwan, Petronas Towers in Malaysia, and Willis Tower in the USA. In 2020, however, the tower in the heart of the United Arab Emirates may lose its title to a competitor because by then the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, whose planned height is 1007 meters, will be completed. In addition, the Dubai Creek Tower is to be completed by 2020. We will see whether the Jeddah Tower or the Creek Tower in Dubai will be the tallest building in the world.

Planning & Construction of the Burj Khalifa

Originally, the skyscraper was only supposed to be slightly higher than the highest building in the world at the time - the Taipei 101 with a height of 508 meters. But due to the technical possibilities and the greed for innovation, the tower was built higher and higher. The Burj Khalifa consists of three building columns, which stand on a Y-shaped ground plan and are brought together in the central axis. An estimated 330,000 cubic meters of concrete, 39,000 tons of reinforcing steel, and 142,000 square meters of glass were required for the construction. Approximately 22 million team working hours were required to construct the world's tallest building.

Use & Equipment of the World's Tallest Building

The Burj Khalifa has a total of 189 floors. Of these, 163 are used for offices, hotels, and more. The highest floor is 638 meters high. It can be reached by elevator at a speed of about 60 km/h. The elevator is equipped with a safety belt. The building also has 57 elevators, 2 double elevators, and 8 escalators. The Burj Khalifa has a floor area of 517,240 square meters, of which approximately 517,000 square meters are usable.

The Armani Hotel is located on the first floor of the skyscraper. It was designed by star designer Giorgio Armani. Above are some chic offices and luxury suites. The Restaurant At.Mosphere is located on the 122nd floor. Thus it is one of the highest restaurants in the world. Moreover, a lobby is located on the 123rd floor.

The 124th projectile lifts a 360-degree observation deck. At 453 m, it is one of the highest platforms in the world. From there you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the Arab Emirates and Dubai City. Since February 2019, the world's highest lounge "The Lounge, Burj Khalifa" has been located on the 152nd - 154th floor. On the 152nd floor, the lounge stretches out onto an outdoor terrace. In addition, some floors of the Burj Khalifa are used for a fitness and wellness area as well as for several spacious apartment apartments.
